Home Energy Solutions

What is Home Energy Solutions?

Home Energy Solutions is a statewide energy efficiency program offered through Energize Connecticut that helps homeowners, renters, and landlords save energy, reduce utility bills, and improve comfort in their homes. An authorized technician visits your home to evaluate its energy performance, identify air leaks and other inefficiencies, and provide on-the-spot energy-saving improvements, such as air sealing, high-efficiency water fixtures, and duct testing. Participants also receive custom recommendations and a report on additional improvements that can further enhance comfort and efficiency, along with connections to rebates, incentives, and financing options for upgrades like insulation, heat pumps, and efficient appliances.

For households that meet income requirements, Home Energy Solutions – Income Eligible provides no-cost in-home assessments and services, including deeper weatherization and access to additional incentives for qualifying energy-saving measures.

What is the Cost for Home Energy Solutions (HES)?

Standard Home Energy Solutions:

  • Market rate Connecticut residents pay a small co-pay of $75 when scheduling a Home Energy Solutions visit through Energize Connecticut. This fee provides a professional energy assessment along with energy-saving improvements that are  worth much more than the cost.

    Income-Eligible Option:

  • If your household meets income eligibility (usually at or below 60 % of the area median income), you may qualify for Home Energy Solutions – Income Eligible.

  • Under this option, the in-home assessment and basic energy-saving services are provided at no cost to you, with deeper weatherization and additional improvements offered at little to no cost as well.

What this means:

  • Most homeowners pay just a modest co-pay for an assessment, which includes on-the-spot energy-saving services and personalized recommendations.

  • Income-qualified households can receive the full Home Energy Solutions services for free, helping make energy efficiency upgrades more accessible and affordable.

What to Expect at a Home Energy Solutions Visit?

At a Home Energy Solutions visit in Connecticut, you can expect a trained technician (or energy specialist) to come to your home and help you find ways to save energy, improve comfort, and lower utility bills. Here’s what typically happens:

A walk-through of your home to look at how it’s heated/cooled and where energy may be wasted

Draft and air-leak checks (common around doors, windows, basements, attics, and other gaps)

On-the-spot improvements, which may include:

Spot air sealing to reduce drafts

Energy-saving LED light bulbs

Low-flow water-saving devices (like showerheads or faucet aerators)

Testing and Review

The technician may do basic efficiency testing and review things like insulation levels, hot water use, and heating/cooling equipment.

You’ll receive a summary of recommended next steps, including options for deeper upgrades.

After the Visit

You may be offered additional weatherization options, such as insulation or more extensive air sealing.

If you’re eligible and choose to move forward, you may also be connected with a no-cost energy consultant to help guide next steps and review contractor quotes.

Once weatherization is addressed, you may also receive information about heat pump options.
