About Live Green Connecticut

Live Green Connecticut:

Nearly 20 Years of Community-Informed Sustainability

For nearly two decades, Live Green Connecticut has stood at the heart of a growing movement—one rooted in community, collaboration, and a shared vision for a more sustainable future.

In the early 2000s, a culture of sustainability began to take shape across Connecticut. Mayors across the state began appointing sustainability task forces, bringing fresh ideas, local leadership, and renewed energy toward advancing green solutions at the community level. These task forces helped spark meaningful conversations and action around clean energy, conservation, and sustainable living.

At the same time, grassroots enthusiasm was rising in parallel. Informal gatherings like Green Drinks began popping up across Connecticut—bringing together a vibrant mix of people from environmental organizations, academia, government, and business.

These gatherings were simple, welcoming, and unstructured—but powerful. They became spaces where connections were made, ideas were born, careers were launched, and lasting collaborations took root. Each person brought someone new, creating an ever-evolving, organic network of changemakers. This groundswell of grassroots energy, combined with the leadership of local sustainability task forces and the growing momentum of Earth Day and Earth Month celebrations, laid the foundation for something bigger.

From this spark, Live Green Connecticut emerged.

Our signature festival—the Live Green Connecticut Festival: Where Green Meets Mainstream—burst onto the scene, drawing thousands of people together to explore, celebrate, and expand what sustainable living could look like in everyday life. These events were more than gatherings—they were catalysts for action and inspiration.

As the movement grew, so did our impact.

Live Green Connecticut then entered a new phase focused on meaningful, local initiatives, including:

  • Solar campaigns

  • Community clean-ups

  • Plastic bag reduction efforts

  • Product stewardship programs

  • Recycling initiatives

  • The Wild & Scenic Film Festival

From there, we expanded into regional leadership and innovation. We led, in collaboration with partners, landmark events such as the Regional Conference on Sustainable Development at Grace Farms, along with a series of Electric Vehicle (EV) conferences and community-driven stakeholder events.

Electric School Bus Demonstration Events

Recognizing the urgent need for sustainable transportation solutions, Live Green Connecticut became a driving force in EV adoption and municipal readiness. As part of this leadership, Live Green Connecticut became the host organization for the Clean Transportation Coalition – Western Connecticut, helping to convene stakeholders, guide regional strategy, and accelerate the transition to cleaner transportation systems.

Stepping Into the Next Phase

Now, after nearly 20 years of community-informed service, Live Green Connecticut is entering an exciting new chapter.

We are expanding our mission to invite community members, municipalities, and businesses across Connecticut to come together in a shared commitment—a pledge to Live Green in ways that benefit us all.

We are kicking off this next phase with a renewed focus on community partnerships and on-the-ground impact. This includes the launch of a Community Partnership Initiative, designed to bring together local leaders, organizations, and residents to co-create solutions tailored to their communities.

In tandem, we are launching a Heat Pump Campaign across four pilot communities—Bridgeport, Stratford, Torrington, and Winsted—helping accelerate the transition to cleaner, more efficient home energy systems while making sustainable choices more accessible and affordable.

We are also proud to welcome a growing network of new partners and collaborators who share in this vision, strengthening our collective ability to drive meaningful, lasting change across Connecticut.

This next phase is about deepening partnerships, scaling impact, and empowering collective action. It is about turning intention into measurable change—together.

Because sustainability is not just a goal—it is a living, evolving movement. And at Live Green Connecticut, we believe the most powerful solutions grow from the ground up—fueled by people, connection, and purpose.

Let’s Build Sustainable Communities Together

Live Green Connecticut partners with communities, organizations, and stakeholders across the state to create practical solutions for a cleaner and healthier future.

Live Green Connecticut believes the solutions for healthier homes, cleaner transportation, and more sustainable communities already exist. The challenge is making those solutions accessible, practical, and scalable for the communities that need them most. Through community partnerships, local leadership, and data-driven strategies, we help accelerate the transition to a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient future across Connecticut.

Our work focuses on advancing programs, policies, and local initiatives that support energy efficiency, transportation electrification, and sustainable community development. This includes helping municipalities prepare for EV infrastructure, supporting clean heating and healthy homes initiatives, improving access to charging solutions, and creating scalable models that communities can adapt to meet their own goals.

Live Green Connecticut works closely with municipalities, nonprofits, utilities, businesses, and community organizations to identify barriers, share best practices, and develop practical solutions that create measurable impact. By combining local engagement with research, field data, and real-world implementation experience, we help communities make informed decisions that deliver long-term environmental and economic benefits.

Across Connecticut, Live Green Connecticut collaborates to accelerate sustainable and stakeholder-focused solutions through the following efforts:

Community Partnership & Technical Support
We provide hands-on support to municipalities, businesses, and community leaders advancing sustainability initiatives. From EV readiness planning, zoning guidance, fleet transition, and materials management to program implementation and stakeholder coordination, we help turn ideas into actionable solutions tailored to stakeholder’s needs.

Data-Driven Research & Practical Tools
Live Green Connecticut develops resources, assessments, and implementation strategies informed by on-the-ground data collected throughout Connecticut and beyond. We use this information to improve program effectiveness, strengthen community planning efforts, and support smarter approaches to clean transportation and sustainability initiatives.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Meaningful progress happens through collaboration. We bring together local governments, community organizations, businesses, residents, and industry partners to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and advance practical solutions that support healthier, more connected communities.

Education & Leadership
We believe education and shared knowledge are essential to lasting change. Through outreach, workshops, community initiatives, and public engagement, Live Green Connecticut helps communities better understand sustainability opportunities and empowers local leaders to take meaningful action.

“Live Green CT was founded on the belief that lasting progress happens through collaboration, community leadership, and practical solutions that make sustainability more accessible. By working across sectors and alongside local partners, we help communities advance cleaner transportation, healthier homes, and long-term sustainability initiatives that create measurable impact.”
